Mahipal Lomror Mumbai witnessed an intense bout of battle as Rajasthan Royals restored their winning momentum in IPL 2026 with a commanding 40-run win against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Poor fielding from Lucknow allowed Samson to also reach his half-century as he and Dhruv Jurel added 80runs for the fourth wicket. The Royals needed the victory after suffering two consecutive defeats, and this was their fifth win in the ongoing season.
On batting first, Rajasthan Royals had an average start. The openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started steadily although they were able to find the boundaries convincingly. Jaiswal in particular looked like a class apart and hit Mohammed Shami for three fours in one over. But just as he looked set for a big innings, it was the aggressive approach that ended his innings. This wicket triggered a collapse when on the next delivery, Shami got rid of Dhruv Jurel. As it turned out, Sooryavanshi was next to fall. Three wickets gone in no time.
Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer, who has been in superb form this season tried to consolidate things for the middle order with a small partnership, however both fell apart at crucial moments. India: Rajasthan had slipped to 77/5 and were looking like they would struggle to reach 100.
It was at this stage that Ravindra Jadeja found the measure of his innings. He held his nerve and forged partnerships with Donovan Ferreira (56) before moving in the company of Shubham Dubey, who scored a more assertive 46 off 43 balls. With his unbeaten top score of 43 from the number eight spot off just 29 balls, Jadeja guided Rajasthan to a fighting total of 159/6 in their alloted 20 overs after a poor start.
This made Lucknow Super Giants struggle in reply. After a run-out cost them Ayush Badoni early, Rishabh Pant soon followed. Jofra Archer struck soon after, sending Aiden Markram back to the dugout and Rajasthan regained control ofthe game.
Lucknow forged a fightback with some resistance from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. The partnership added 43 runs and gave their side a glimmer of hope. But once again, Jadeja struck at a very vital time to get pooran out.
Marsh, who is desperately fighting to hold his spot in the Test team, brought up his first fifty of the season off just 39 balls. Rajasthan captain Parag had just pulled off a tactical masterstroke by bringing back Nandre Burger, who claimed the wicket of Marsh. That tomfoolery ruined Rajasthan’s gamble in totally altering the course of the match.
From then on, the Rajasthan bowlers took charge. Jofra Archer finished with three wickets for 20 runs and was outstanding. The match also witnessed him becoming highest wicket-taker of Rajasthan Royals in IPL history. Brijesh Sharma and co took timely wickets to send Lucknow packing for 119 in 18 overs.
As a result of this all-round performance, Rajasthan Royals finally broke their losing streak and are back to winning ways. The bowlers displayed stunning discipline in defending a moderate total, with Jadeja’s innings making all the difference.
Having now got that first win under their belt, Rajasthan Royals will hope to build on it when they play the Sunrisers Hyderabad next up at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in what will be their first home game of the season.
